The best place to collect them is the island just east of the factory (there are also a few in Rivet’s Hideout).

Return to Mort, and you’ll feed Trudi the Zurpstones you’ve collected. With your first 15 (at least) Zurpstones in hand, you’ll get a new objective. You should end up with 21 on this short loop. You’ll collect a few Zurpstones as you pass, and then ride a Sneedle to collect a few more.
